With all of the reports still saying dolphin are thick we set up a trip for 4/29 to head to Mahi town. Left port around 6:30 and headed NE-ish to 200′, put lines in and started blind trolling East. Picked up a baby bonita and kept trolling. We kept going East past 300′, then 400′, and soon we come across a nice rip in 470′-530′ and started working it with everyone else. We picked up some lone schoolies, then a 26# bull on the shotgun, then a 16#er and kept at it. Right before deciding to call it a day we get another hit and add another 25# fish to the box.
It was like a lake out there all day, water temp around 77F out deep. Lots of radio chatter of fish in close and fish out far.
Did get stopped by the man about 30 miles out. Low oil in the steering made it fun, and coming home roughly 9 miles out the port motor gives low oil pressure alarm so we come home on one motor. Getting on the trailer was an adventure worthy of the Grills Boat Ramp Follies Award of the Week I’m sure.
